One Young World Summit 2014, Dublin Hotels, Dublin Bed and Breakfast, Dublin Hostels, October 2014
DUBLIN has been named host city for One Young World Summit 2014, beating Hong Kong and Edinburgh in a three-way battle.
The annual event brings together over 1,500 delegates, aged between 18 and 30, and counsellors who have previously included Kofi Annan, Bob Geldof, Jamie Oliver, and Bill Clinton.
With delegates attending from more than 180 countries there will be more nations represented at this event than at any gathering other than the Olympics.
The summit provides a unique forum for the views of the world’s young leaders and creates a formidable global network which will enable them to work for positive change on a global basis well into the foreseeable future.
The event will generate more than €3 million for the hospitality, conferencing and leisure industries in Ireland.
Topics on the agenda, which is developed by One Young World Ambassadors all over the world, include Human Rights, Transparency and Integrity, Education, Global Business, Health, Leadership and Governance and Sustainable Development.
One Young World hosted its inaugural summit in London in 2010, with subsequent summits in Zurich in 2011, and Pittsburgh last September. In 2013, the summit will be hosted in Johannesburg from October 2-5.
The Dublin bid was submitted by Clara Kelleher, Bob Coggins and Valerie McGrane, a group of youth leaders based in Dublin, who took on the challenge of winning the hosting of the event for Dublin city.
